How Medirest training and career pathways have shaped Shayan Shariati’s journey in security.
When I first started in security over ten years ago, I knew it was going to be more than just a job. It was a chance to make a real difference – even save lives. Since then, what has truly transformed my career is the access to ongoing training and a clear career development pathway that I have accessed since joining Medirest.
I joined Medirest in 2023 as a Security Supervisor at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Through hard work and training opportunities available to me I was promoted to Deputy Security Manager in 2024.
Working in healthcare security is a challenging but rewarding environment and through continuous learning, I’ve gained the skills and confidence to manage demanding situations, lead teams, and take on greater responsibilities. The training has been comprehensive and covered areas such as security management, disciplinary procedures, rostering, return to work processes, and investigations.
Investigations are my strongest area and what I enjoy most. The structured development program has not only helped me grow professionally but also made my work even more rewarding.
For anyone starting out or looking to progress in security, I can’t stress enough how important it is to embrace training opportunities and follow purposeful career development. They open doors you might not have imagined and prepare you for challenges ahead in work and outside of work.
I took the decision to invest time and effort into my training because it isn’t just about my next role - it’s about building a meaningful and lasting career.
