"Take Action, Make Impact" during this National Inclusion Week
This week at Compass Healthcare we are celebrating the progress we have made in improving diversity and inclusion throughout our organisation, this also gives us the opportunity to reflect on what more we can do to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. As we mark National Inclusion Week, we shine a spotlight on some of our incredible shining stars from across the healthcare sector who work tirelessly to ensure that we are an inclusive organisation.
One such exceptional individual is David Morgan, Contract Director at London North West University. David is not only a dedicated professional, but also a champion of inclusion. David eloquently puts it, "When you feel included, you feel a sense of pride in what you do." Read our full interview with David below;
Why is inclusion important to you?
Inclusion in the workplace is about providing equal access and opportunities, while removing barriers of discrimination and intolerance. It is important to me because of the diversity of my workforce, with different backgrounds and lived experiences.
What initiatives are onsite and what difference have they made?
We work with Project Search, which provides work-based training for young people with learning disabilities and autism. The project at Northwick Park Hospital has the highest employment rate of any Project Search programme in the UK! Through this we have gained access to a pool of keen and able employees who may not have had the opportunity to enter paid employment otherwise. We also celebrate the main religious festivals of our workforce and encourage frontline colleagues to get involved in the preparation and delivery of events. This allows them to share their pride in their heritage with the rest of the team, who learn more about their colleagues and their background, giving everyone the opportunity to get together in a non-work related activity.
What difference does inclusion make to your overall teams?
I believe when you feel included you get a sense of pride in what you do which in return adds value and engagement to the overall dynamics of the team. Being inclusive enriches the way the team interacts and performs on a daily basis in such a positive way.
Advice to other managers, seeking to become more inclusive
My only advice for other managers would be to be aware of the opportunities that present themselves - you don't need to look very hard, and take the initiative in turning ideas into practice.
Thank you to all our fantastic people, as we look forward to a great week celebrating them and making plans for the future.
